through the wide green leaves

hanging lightly down,

the sun beats hard.

the thrum of my heart.

It's bloody amazing.

I keep clutching

my too-short, awkward hair,

as we gaze together at the coastline.

Your sunburnt nape,

a broad back, slightly hunched,

covered by a loose white shirt,

and on the fabric, faintly showing through,

a bold trace of ink:

We have this hope

as an anchor for the soul.

Swaying waves,

a cruise ship moored,

and on the gentle water,

the coastline.
